McPherson, Kan. – Seniors Michelle Ducy and Carley Sharp, along with junior Kristen Ozbun were three of 177 athletes to be named 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes in a recent announcement by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
For all three Bulldogs, this is their first appearance on the scholar athlete list.
Michelle Ducy, a 5-6 senior guard from Pueblo, Colo., led McPherson with 94 assist in 27 starts for the Bulldogs. Ducy is expected to graduate in May after majoring in pre-physical therapy at McPherson.
Sharp, a 6-1 senior forward from Chanute, Kan., averaged 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 14 games in 2009-10. Sharp missed the first half of the season due to injury, but came back to provide a strong post presence. Carley plans to complete a degree in accounting and finance in May.
Ozbun, a two-time All-KCAC honorable mention honoree, makes her first appearance on the scholar athlete list. The 5-6 guard from Rose Hill, Kan., is McPherson’s active scoring leader 858 career points. During the 2009-10 campaign, Ozbun averaged a team high 13.5 points on 37.3 percent shooting from the field. Ozbun is currently majoring in pre-physical therapy.
To be eligible a player must be nominated by the head coach, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.
