Kansas City, Mo. – Seven McPherson College athletic teams earned the NAIA Scholar Team award in a Tuesday morning announcement by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The NAIA honored a record 857 programs throughout its membership base.
The seven Bulldog programs honored include, women’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s track and field, women’s cross country, men’s tennis, softball and volleyball.
Greater than 14 percent of the 857 schools receiving the award had a 3.5 or higher grade point average.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
MC kicks off the fall season on Aug. 15 when fall student-athletes arrive on campus for check-in. Workouts are set to begin on Monday, Aug. 16.
