McPherson, Kan. – After nearly a month layoff, the McPherson College men’s and women’s cross country teams return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they host the second annual Lakeside Shootout at Wall Park in McPherson, Kan.
The women’s 5K race will start at 10:15 a.m. and the men will run an 8K course starting at 11 a.m.
The event includes several Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference teams including Bethel College, Southwestern College, Sterling College and Tabor College.
Senior David Parry enters the race as the Bulldog men’s top runner. Parry finished fourth at the Blue Dragon Invitational with a time of 18:41 (5.6K). Sophomore Preston Mossman acts as an up and coming presence for McPherson. Mossman moved from the Bulldogs No. 3 spot into the No. 2 position with a 12
th place finish at the Blue Dragon Invitational.
As a team, the Bulldogs enter the Shootout as the defending team champion.
On the women’s side, senior Ashley Huizar leads McPherson. At the Blue Dragon Invitational, Huizar finished as the individual champion with course record time of 15:09.
Last season, the Bulldog women finished third overall.
After the Lakeside Shootout, McPherson begins preparations for the NAIA Mid-States Classic on Saturday, Oct. 22. The meet is host by Southwestern College and currently scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
