McPherson, Kan. – Sophomore Aspen Frey led the Bulldog women’s cross country team to a sixth place finish out of 11 teams, while senior David Parry paced the men’s team to an eighth place finish at the McPherson College Lakeside Shootout Saturday morning at Wall Park in McPherson, Kan.
Frey, who was competing for the first time this season, placed 11
th overall with a time of 20:24.00. Senior Ashley Huizar was the second fastest Bulldog to cover the 5K course with a time of 20:44.30, good for 16
th place. Behind Huizar with a time of 22:19.20 for 44
th place was senior Lizette Guzman, while senior Ashley Martinez (22:30.70; 49
th place), sophomore Erin Loeffler (23:33.30; 61
st place) and senior Katie Doffing (24:41.70; 69
th place) completed the scoring runners for McPherson.
As a team, McPherson amassed 154 points to defeat conference foes Tabor College and Sterling College. Cowley Community College had three runners finish in the top 10 to win the team championship with 57 points. Individually, Oslyn Collins of Colby Community College won the championship with a time of 19:29.10.
On the men’s side, Parry finished 36
th with a time of 28:33.10, while sophomore Preston Mossman finished second on the team with a time of 29:29.20 (56
th place). Other scorers for the men include senior Josh Nilles (29:34.70; 58
th place), sophomore Derek Kruger (32:31.00; 78
th place), senior Cody Compton (32:36.80; 79
th place) and freshman Devon Rutledge (37:25.90; 101
st place).
Colby Community College edged Southwestern College to claim the team championship, 41-42. Edward Limo of Colby won the individual title at 25:38.10.
McPherson returns to action next Saturday when they compete at the NAIA Mid-States Classic.
