McPherson, Kan. – Sophomore
Aspen Frey (Newton, Kan.) represents the McPherson College cross country team in this Saturday’s NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. The women’s race is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m. (PST). The 2011 National Championships are hosted by the Cascade Collegiate Conference and Concordia University-Portland (Ore.).
The women’s field features 32 teams and 105 individual qualifiers. Frey, who is the first women’s qualifier for the Bulldogs since Marisol Sanchez in 1998, earned her spot with a ninth place finish at the KCAC Championships in a time of 20:17.33.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) enters the event as the top-ranked team, led by two-time All-American seniors Lauren Jimison and Jacky Kipwambok. In addition to Azusa Pacific, Cal State San Marcos and Biola (Calif.) come into the weekend as potential favorites.
Friends enters the meet as the top KCAC team after winning the conference team championship two weeks ago. That victory solidified the Falcons fifth place ranking in the final NAIA Women’s Cross Country Top 25.
Saturday’s awards ceremony, which features team and individual acknowledgements, will be live-streamed on the NAIA website for free starting at 2 p.m. (PST).
