McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team brought home five All-KCAC accolades, announced Friday afternoon by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference office on Friday. Freshman forward
Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) headlined the group with the squad’s lone first team selection.
Gray, whose first team selection marks the first conference postseason honor of her career, led the Bulldogs with 11 goals and 25 points, including her first career hat trick on Oct. 26 at Southwestern. In addition to the all-conference selection, Gray received KCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.
McPherson’s four other selections were named to the All-KCAC second team, as senior defender
Whitney Smith (South Jordan, Utah), senior midfielder
Stachea Perea (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore goalkeeper
Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) and freshman midfielder
Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) garnered the recognition.
Perea and Smith were two of only four Bulldogs to start all 18 matches this season and each played a key role in a Bulldog defense that held opponents to a 1.36 goals against average, including nine shutouts.
Verdieck, who opened the season as MC’s reserve goalkeeper, posted four shutouts in eight matches. She finished the regular season with a 1.10 goals against average and .784 save percentage.
Cornell finished the season as MC’s second leading scorer with five goals, while tying for the team-lead with three assists.
The Bulldogs enter the KCAC tournament on Friday, as the conference’s No. 3 seed. McPherson will host No. 6 Bethel College at 4:30 p.m. at McPherson Stadium. Winner of that match moves on to play No. 2 seed Ottawa University on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
