Live Scoring and Video of NAIA Outdoor Championships
McPherson, Kan. – Nine individuals fromthe McPherson College track and field team left Sunday afternoon for Marion, Ind. for the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NAIA) Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The national meet is hosted on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University and will open on Wednesday, May 26 at 10 a.m.
Student-athletes representing McPherson include senior Antowine Lamb (Topeka, Kan.), senior Mitchell Krier (Sterling, Colo.), senior Geovianni Popoca, junior Javier Ceja (Pico Rivera, Calif.), junior Daniel Sorenson (Lakewood, Calif.), junior David Parry (Morganville, Kan.), junior Derrick Toney (Salinas, Calif.), freshman Paul Rotering (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Nolan Dreiling (Larned, Kan.).
On the track, Parry opens the event in the preliminary round of the 800m at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. He ranks 20th overall with a time of 1:52.87. Popoca, Ceja and Sorenson hit the track a few hours later in the 10,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase. Ceja and Sorenson rank amongst the top 10 in their respective events after posting school record times of 30:24.44 (Ceja) in the 10,000m and 9:09.01 (Sorenson) in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Kansas Relays.
Semifinals for the 800m and 3,000m steeplechase will be held on Friday with finals on Saturday.
In the field, Rotering and Dreiling throw the javelin on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., exactly one day before Lamb defends his 2010 individual championship in the men’s high jump. Earlier this season, Lamb and Toney cleared 2.06m (6’-9”) to rank 10th nationally.
Krier wraps up the field events for McPherson on Saturday with the pole vault. He owns the current program record of 4.91m (16’-1”), which he set during the 2010 indoor season. Krier’s seed height is 4.80m (15’-9”).
