Meet Results (After Day One)

Marion, Ind. – The McPherson College track and field team got off to a fast start on Thursday, as six Bulldogs saw action in day one action of the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion Ind. The event is being hosted on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.
Junior David Parry (Morganville, Kan.) opened the day with a third place finish in his heat to advance to the semifinals of the event. Parry posted his second fastest time of the year with a 1:53.63, which ranks 11th amongst the athletes that advanced.
Following Parry on the track was junior Daniel Sorenson (Lakewood, Calif.), who competed in the 3,000m steeplechase. Sorenson won his heat and posted the top time in the event with a McPherson College school record, 9:05.73. The time bettered the mark he previous set at the Kansas Relays in April (9:09.01).
Senior Geovanni Popoca and junior Javier Ceja (Pico Rivera, Calif.) closed the day in the 10,000m. Ceja finished 10th in the event with a time of 30:31.62, while Popoca took 50th with a time of 32:47.83.
In the field, freshman throwers Paul Rotering (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Nolan Dreiling (Larned, Kan.) took 19th and 21st overall in the javelin. Rotering recorded a toss of 51.56m (169’-2”), while Dreiling threw 49.01m (160’-9”).
McPherson returns to the track tomorrow, May 27 beginning at 2:35 p.m. with the semifinal round of the 800m. The Bulldogs will also compete in the high jump at 5 p.m.
