Wichita, Kan. – The fifth seeded McPherson College softball team opens the 2011 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament against fourth seed Southwestern College on Wednesday at the Two Rivers Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. The game will begin at 12 p.m.

McPherson (20-24, 8-8), who enters the game riding a four game winless streak, is looking to right the ship with a first round victory against the Moundbuidlers. The two sides met on April 2 with Southwestern (16-18, 9-7) winning game one of the doubleheader, 11-1 (five innings), before the Bulldogs bounced back to claim game two, 6-2.

Junior Katie Logan (Clay Center, Kan.) paces the MC offense with a team-leading 0.375 batting average, 51 hits and 28 RBIs, while junior Andrea Falk (Cheyenne, Wyo.) leads the squad with seven home runs and ranks second with 25 RBIs. In the circle, sophomore right-hander Kelsey Dutton (Limon, Colo.) finished the year with a 12-8 record, including 15 complete games and 100 strikeouts.

As a team, McPherson is hitting 0.284 and averaging 4.7 runs per game.

With a win, the Bulldogs would advance to play in the quarterfinal round to play either No. 1 Bethany College or No. 8 Sterling College/No. 9 University of Saint Mary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. A loss would put McPherson in the losers bracket against the loser of the previously mention game. That contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
