McPherson, Kan. – Athletic Director Doug Quint announced Monday morning that Andrew Ehling has been named head baseball coach at McPherson College. A 2004 graduate of Kansas State University, Ehling has spent the last two seasons as the pitching coach at the University of Central Missouri.

2011 - Ehling
“I’m excited to become a part of the McPherson community and McPherson College baseball,” said Ehling. “It’s a rare opportunity for a coach to get a chance to build a program and I look forward to helping McPherson (College) build a tradition of excellence in baseball.”

“I’m pleased and excited about our committee’s decision in the hiring of Andrew,” said McPherson College Athletic Director Doug Quint. “He is a high class individual; who we feel confident will instill a tradition of excellence in our baseball program both on the field and in the classroom. I look forward to working with Andrew as we build that tradition at McPherson College.

As part of the Mules', Ehling has been in charge of a pitching staff that helped lead Central Missouri to a 94-19 overall record and a 71-13 mark in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), including the programs 14th MIAA Championship in the last 17 years last weekend when the Mules swept Truman State University.

In 2010, the Mules won the MIAA regular season and tournament championship before advancing to the NCAA tournament where they finished fifth at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.

Prior to UCM, Ehling spent three seasons as pitching coach at Hutchinson Community College (Kan.). During the 2008 season, the Blue Dragons pitching staff ranked amongst the nation’s best with a 3.42 team ERA.

Before Hutchinson, he served one year as an assistant at Odessa College (Texas) and one year as a student assistant at Kansas State.

In the summer months, Ehling spent the 2010 season as the head coach of the Hutchinson Monarchs Baseball Club (Kan.), where he guided the squad to a Mid-Kansas Tournament Championship and an appearance in the National Baseball Congress World Series. He plans to manage the Monarchs this coming summer.

Prior to the Monarchs, he had managerial stints with the Edmonton Prospects Baseball Club (Alberta, Canada) and the Salina Blue Jays (Kan.).

As a player, Ehling played two seasons at Butler Community College (Kan.) before transferring to Kansas State to finish his career. He owns a bachelor’s degree in social science from KSU and a master’s degree in athletic and sport business administration from UCM.
