John at Tabor

Track and Field | 3/12/2012 10:35:00 AM

Hillsboro, Kan. – Four first place finishes, four Personal Records and a NAIA “A” standard qualifier gets the McPherson College outdoor track and field season off on the right foot.  MC traveled to the Tabor College Invitational track and field meet on Saturday, March 10.

Following his All-American performance at the NAIA Indoor National Championships, Derrick Toney grabbed himself a spot in the outdoor championships in high-jump after leaping 2.06m (6’ 9”), achieving an “A” qualifying standard.  John Goodwin earned a personal record in the 110m hurdles, finishing second with a time of 16.30.  Paul Rotering threw the javelin 52.85m to claim first place in the meet.  Evan Clary also recorded a PR with is 43.75m discus throw.

The Lady Bulldogs recorded six top five finishes with first place finishes coming from Cathy Lowry in the 100m dash with a time of 12.81, and Ashley Huizar in the 5000m run posting a 20:04.11 time.  Lowry’s 100m time was a personal best and she also finished second in the 200m dash, breaking the finish line at 27.64.  Kylee Scott was also able to attain a personal record in the long jump, soaring 4.74m (15’ 6.75”).

Coach Magnall said that he was “very pleased with how [the team] performed. We were lucky that other than the wind, coming in at 15-20mph all day, we had good weather for our first outdoor meet. Getting an A standard in the first meet was a good start to the season. We are looking forward to a few good weeks of training before our next meet at Friends at the end of the month.”
