Baldwin City, Kan. – McPherson College competed in the 2012 Wildcat Relays hosted by Baker University on April 28th, competing against nine other NAIA colleges. After having 11 combined SB/PRs last week, the Bulldogs posted five Season Bests and nine Personal Records including two new school records on Saturday.
Senior Ashley Huizar highlighted the Lady Bulldog’s day with her 12:38.50 time in the 3000m Steeple Chase, breaking her own school record by four seconds. Cathy Lowry and Aspen Frey both came within a few clicks of setting personal bests in the 200m dash and 1500m run, respectively.
High Jump was the event to watch on Saturday as McPherson College took first and second with both Derrick Toney and Garrett Sharp setting new Personal Records. Toney’s first place jump of 2.12m (6’ 11.5”) breaks his old school record by one centimeter and is the second best jump in the NAIA this year. Sharp earned a trip to the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships with his hop of 2.01m (6’ 7”) and is tied for 15th best in the NAIA. Paul Rotering followed up his school record performance from last week with a first place throw of 55.77m (183’) at Baker.
The men finished fifth in the meet with 47 points while the women placed fourth with 44.
Next up for MC track and field is the 2012 KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Thursday and Friday of this week, May 3rd and 4th. The meet is hosted by Sterling College and will be held in Sterling, Kansas. The KCAC meet schedule can be viewed here.
