Sterling, Kan. – It’s KCAC championship week and the McPherson College track and field teams headed down to Sterling, Kansas for the 2012 KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet, being held on the 3rd and 4th of May.
Day one for the Bulldogs was highlighted by two first place finishes by Paul Rotering in the javelin and Derrick Toney in the high jump. Rotering threw 60.56m (198’ 8”) to grab the top spot and Toney cleared 2.06m (6’ 9”) on his first attempt to take gold. Toney's first place finish gives McPherson College the gold medal in the high jump for a KCAC record fourth consecutive year.
Other All-KCAC performances were turned in by Josh Dunback, Evan Clary and Heath Hewitt in the discus. Dunback set a new Personal Record of 46.13m (151’ 4”) with his throw and finished second while Clary took fourth, throwing 43.05m (141’ 3”) and Hewitt landed in sixth after a 41.88m (137’ 5”) toss. Garrett Sharp also made all-conference with his third place finish in high jump, leaping 1.96m (6’ 5”).
Qualifying for the finals tomorrow for the men were John Goodwin in the 110m hurdles and Trenton Hart in the 100m dash. The women are sending Cathy Lowry in the 100m and 200m dashes, Kylee Scott in the 400m dash and Amanda Fleming in the 400m dash to finals as well.
The KCAC championship meet hosted by Sterling College continues tomorrow with these field events on the docket: hammer throw, triple jump, pole vault and shot put for both men and women, beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CT)
Running events will begin at 5:00 p.m. (CT) starting with the 4x100m relay.
