McPherson, Kan. – On Wednesday, December 4, McPherson College Director of Athletics Doug Quint announced that Steve Fox has accepted the head coaching position for Bulldog football. Fox has been the team's defensive coordinator for the past two seasons; in 2012 MC finished 10
th in the Nation in total defense.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Bulldog football program," said Fox. "We will continue to build on the success we've had the past two years. I enjoy being a part of the McPherson community and am looking forward to connecting with the supporters of McPherson football."
"Under Coach Fox, our defense was one of the best in the NAIA," commented Quint. "I am excited to see what he can do with the control of the entire program. Steve is a standup guy that has built an impressive resume and has been successful everywhere he's been. He has the respect of the players, his staff, and the campus community. Bulldog football is in good hands."
Joining the staff two years ago, Fox had previously spent one season at Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he served as D-coordinator. OPSU finished the season second in the NCAA Division II in total and pass defense, allowing 256.2 total yards and 138.8 passing yards per game.
Prior to OPSU, Fox was the secondary coach at Howard Payne University (Texas) from 2008-2010 and coached at West Texas A&M University in 2007, also as the secondary coach. The West Texas A&M Buffs went 12-1 and won the Lone Star Conference Championship in 2007.
In 2006, Fox coached at fellow KCAC institution Tabor College (Kan.); while he was with the Blue Jays, TC set the school record in rush defense, holding opponents to 86 rush yards per game. From 2004-2005, Fox was the linebackers coach of Abilene Christian University (Texas) and helped turn the program into a top-10 team in the NCAA D-II.
An Odessa, Texas native, Fox played at Odessa High School during the "Friday Night Lights" era. He received his Bachelors degree in Physical Education from Abilene Christian University (Texas) in 2006 and his Masters in Sports Management from California Pennsylvania in 2007.
Fox is the father of two, daughters Breanna age 15 and Alyssa age 6 with his first boy on the way.
