Wichita, Kan. - The KCAC has announced the 2013 all-conference awards for men's tennis. MC grabs two first round selections and two second team members. Bulldog head coach Jeff Benito was named Coach of the Year while Rafael Bulnes earned Player of the Year and Slav Bukatin got tabbed the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Bukatin made the first team list while Mark Mahan and Torsten Keil-Long were placed on the second team.
Bulnes, a unanimous decision, went 22-5 in singles and 21-5 in doubles this season. His play at number one singles has been outstanding as his only losses came against either NCAA opponents or top-20 ranked NAIA foes. Bulnes, a sophomore transfer from Vincennes University, was the lone Bulldog to take down his singles opponent in the matchup with No. 6 Bethany College.
For the second-straight year, Bukatin achieved the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the conference. His current GPA of 4.0 and his outstand accomplishments on the court made him an easy decision for coaches. The senior has put up a record of 13-8 and 15-13 in number two singles and number one doubles, respectively.
Mahan and Keil-Long, 2012 transfers from Cypress College, are doubles partners so it’s only fitting that they both make the second team together. The two have a combined 30-13 singles record and are 19-3 in doubles.
Benito is in his second year at the helm for McPherson College tennis and has an overall record of 38-11 in the regular season.
