McPherson, Kan. – Following their third place KCAC finish of a year ago, Mac women’s soccer cranked up the competition level of their opponents for 2013. Matches against National contenders Baker University, Mid-America Nazarene University and Kansas Wesleyan University give Mac one of the hardest schedules they’ve had in recent years.
“Our 2013 schedule is set up to be one of the toughest non-conference schedules we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said head coach Robert Talley. “We keep telling our players the only way they can prepare for the grueling challenges of conference play is by putting them against solid opponents who will battle them both mentally and physically.
The 2013 schedule for the Lady Bulldogs will test them early as they host NCAA D-II Fort Hays State University after being at the college for less than 10 days; the Lady Tigers won the MIAA Championship last fall. A trip to Texas where they face University of Texas-Brownsville and Northwood University only increases the difficulty for the ‘Dogs; UTB was ranked No. 9 in the NAIA's final poll of 2012
Once KCAC play begins, McPherson will have nine contests in under a month before the conference tournament which is set to be start November 9th. The Lady Coyotes of KWU are the heavy favorite but after that, it’s any teams to take.
“Our conference season isn’t going to be much easier anymore now that quite a few of the teams are reloading with some solid individual talent including #11 Nationally ranked Kansas Wesleyan who made it to the sweet 16 of the National Tournament. “
