Bulnes and Fajula Rodriguez ITA Region Champs Again

Lincoln, Neb. – For the second-straight year, the doubles combo of Rafael Bulnes and Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez have been crowned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region NAIA Doubles Champions.  The rest of the Bulldogs had solid performances at the regional championships as well.

Head Coach Justin Stuckey had this to say about the women's weekend.  "I felt that we did a good job this weekend.  We didn't quite achieve our goals that we had wanted but it was great to see Lea Striegel make it to the semifinals of the tournament for singles.  For her to be a freshmen and doing this shows just how much potential she has.  Nikki and Nadine for doubles did really well with making it to the quarterfinals.  The match that they lost was to the eventual champion, showing that they are capable of playing with anyone which will be a strength for us this year."

For the men, Coach Stuckey said this – "This was great for Rafa and JM to now have won their second regional doubles championship in a row.  It is hard just to make it to the finals once, let alone to make it to the finals three times and actually win two of those championships.  In singles we have showed we are a force to be reckoned with.  Everyone in the ITA tournament won matches.  We had three players for the men in the singles semifinals.  This really shows just how competitive we are against some of the best players in the country."

The Bulnes/Fajula Rodriguez duo won the honor after fighting off four different sets of opponents.  They are now entered in the ITA Small College Championships which is scheduled for mid-October in South Carolina.
