Salina, Kan. – For the third consecutive year, the McPherson College men’s soccer program ranks amongst the top two positions in the annual KCAC Coaches’ preseason poll. The Bulldogs received 78 points including two first place votes, earning them the No. 2 spot.
Defending tournament champion Kansas Wesleyan University was selected as the preseason favorite with 89 points and 8-of-10 first place votes. Rounding out the top five behind KWU and McPherson are Friends University (77), Ottawa University (65) and Sterling College (55).
The Bulldogs, winners of the KCAC regular season title in 2009 and 2008 conference tournament championship, closed out last year with a 15-2 mark, 9-0 in conference play. MC’s season ended in a KCAC tournament semifinal loss to Friends University, 2-1. Despite the loss, McPherson set numerous program records in 2009, including shutouts in a season, fewest goals allowed and wins.
McPherson opens its 2010 campaign on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against Concordia University (Neb.).
