McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College men’s soccer player Tyler Tank (Austin, Texas) was voted to the Capital One Academic All-American first team for the College Division, announced earlier today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Tank, who is the first McPherson College athlete to earn this award, was among 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-American first team.

Tank, a senior defender and team captain, has a 3.94 grade point average in accounting and finance and has earned CoSIDA’s Academic All-District honors the past two years. On the pitch, Tank has received four consecutive All-KCAC awards and in 2009 was named to the NAIA honorable mention All-American team. He is a key member of McPherson’s 2008 and 2009 conference championship teams and owns six career goals and two assists.

The All-American team is voted upon by the CoSIDA Academic All-American Committee members and the current CoSIDA Board of Directors. To reach the national team ballot, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2, participate as a starter or key reserve for their institution and have received academic all-district first team honors.

McPherson ended the season with an 11-7-1 overall record after falling to Kansas Wesleyan in the semifinal round of the KCAC postseason tournament.
