Orange Beach, Ala. – The McPherson College men’s soccer program landed two student-athletes on the 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team, as senior
Tyler Tank (Austin, Texas) and junior
Andrew Suits (Henderson, Nev.) were named to the squad. Suits receives the NAIA’s highest academic honor for the first time in his career, while Tank earns the honor for the second straight season.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s head coach, must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.
Tank, a senior defender from Austin, Texas, was a 2011 All-KCAC second team selection and was recently named a Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He finished the season with one goal in 19 matches and was a key member of a defense that held its opponents to a 1.29 goals against average.
A junior from Henderson, Nev., Suits posted two assists in 18 matches from his outside back position. For a career, he owns 12 points on four goals and four assists, while being called on by the McPherson coaching staff to play as a forward, midfielder and defender.
In all, 286 student-athletes earned the honor in men’s soccer, including 15 individuals from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
McPherson concluded its 2011 season with an 11-7-1 overall record after falling to Kansas Wesleyan in the semifinal round of the KCAC postseason tournament.
