McPherson, Kan. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Thursday that McPherson had 10 programs earn a spot on the NAIA Scholar Team List. The mark upped the department’s previous high of seven set one year ago.
Women’s indoor and outdoor track and field took home the top prize for the institution with a 3.44 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, followed by women’s cross country at 3.42 and volleyball at 3.38 to round out the top three. Other programs included on the list were, women’s basketball (3.12), men’s basketball (3.08), women’s soccer (3.00), softball (3.16), women’s tennis (3.32) and men’s tennis (3.19).
The Lee University (Tenn.) women’s golf team received the 2010-11 NAIA Scholar Team of the Year award, as the Lady Flames finished with a 3.86 grade point average. Biola University (Calif.), Concordia University (Neb.) and Hastings College (Neb.) had the most teams represented with 18.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
