McPherson, Kan. – Construction for two grass practice fields designed for men’s and women’s soccer as well as football is underway. The new fields will alleviate overuse of game facilities and address scheduling conflicts.  They will be located just to the east of McPherson Stadium in the vacant space.

“These fields will enable the college teams to practice at a consistent time throughout the year, no matter what is taking place on the turf stadium,” said McPherson College Athletic Director Doug Quint.  “The building of these facilities shows the level of commitment our administration at McPherson College has to ensure student-athletes are successful in the classroom and have a good experience.”

Surveying of the area has already been completed with the dirt work and installation of the drainage system nearly finished.  Once those steps are complete, there will be a drip irrigation system put in.  Drip irrigation is the slow, accurate distribution of water and nutrients directly to the roots in a preset pattern which takes away the need of a sprinkler system and conserves water.  Bermuda sod is scheduled to be laid on July 15th with fencing of the area to follow.

Updates will continue throughout the entire process.
