McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College Director of Athletics Doug Quint announced Wednesday that Steve Fox has resigned his position as head coach of the Bulldog football program as of December 5th. Fox leaves McPherson to become the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Cisco College in Texas.
"The move I am making is summed up by the opportunity to be close to two beautiful young ladies that are my daughters," said Fox. "I have preached family and the importance of it during my time here and my biggest hope is everyone sees that in this decision I am making."
"Selfishly, I am really sorry to see Steve go," said Quint. "On the other hand, as a father, I am extremely happy for him. The decision he made is a no brainer and I wish him nothing but the best. He has been nothing but a pure professional and someone who is leaving a program better than the way he found it."
Fox was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach in December of 2013; in 2012 MC finished 10th in the Nation in total defense.
"Words cannot express my gratitude for the opportunity I was given at McPherson College as an assistant and head coach," said Fox. "I have created lifelong relationships here that I will cherish forever. Proud is an understatement when it comes to the Bulldogs and all they accomplished the three years I was blessed to be around them."
The Bulldogs posted a record of 4-7 in Fox's lone year at the helm; they finished 5-6 in 2013 and 4-5 in 2012 when Fox was the defensive coordinator.
Fox has coached 34 All-KCAC athletes, 10 scholar-athlete award winners, and two Capital One-CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
"McPherson will always be special to me in many ways," stated Fox. "I wanted to leave the program better than it was handed to me and I wish nothing but success for its future."
Offensive coordinator Justin Van Houten will serve as interim head coach.
McPherson College plans to post the opening on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) websites.
